The World Was Warned

U.N. observers were in Damascus when rockets containing nerve gas reined down on the Syrian people.    Wails, hand wringing, accusations and finger pointing are now taking place.  Intelligence gathering is  ongoing as to who, what and why.  Trouble is, it's too late.  Too bad no one took action to stop this latest act of barbarism from happening in the first place.  We were warned, months ago, that Assad might use chemical weapons on his own people.  Yes, one could argue that Assad didn't actually make the decision and that others could be involved.  Does that really matter?  You now have the deceased--children, young men and women whose faces and bodies are plastered  all over the newspapers.  Damn you Obama.  Damn you, you so-called world leaders who are leading all of us to hell.  Damn you United Nations, you, who always are one step behind.  Damn you Assad and all the factions that ultimately (hopefully) will be identified as the perpetrators of this horrific attack.  But will these murderers ever be rounded up and punished?  There are those among us who will continue to wreak havoc and harm on innocents.  But the rules of engagement have changed.  We now have brutal acts taking place with impunity and those in high places avoiding any meaningful discourse in which facts are summarily dismissed followed by anguished looks and hollow words.   A line drawn in the sand means something else entirely.  So much for rhetoric.   With Obama in office, I am ashamed to call myself an American.
